ULABA X NOLÉ's Alida Boer

Yesterday was… eventful. I don’t really have the right to make a joke about anyone’s political beliefs, so today’s newsletter will be a bit more formal than usual. Before I begin, I’d like to make sure that all of you are aware of NYU’s wellbeing, counseling, and student support services, and emphasize that ULABA is a vibrant community that welcomes anyone and everyone. We value each other’s diverse and unique perspectives, and hope that all of you know that you can count on us if you ever need anyone to talk to.
Tomorrow, we’ll be speaking with Alida Boer, a Guatemalan fashion model turned entrepreneur, but more on that later 😉
Join us at Tisch Hall, UC-25 from 12:30PM to 1:30PM… we’ll have free food and great vibes! In fact, we’ll have such great vibes that they may carry us out into the night…
Professional Development
ULABA Internship Database
As per usual, feel free to peruse the ULABA Internship Database for any and all opportunities. If you have a specific interest on a company or industry that we have not featured here, please reach out to an E-Board member to help guide you in your search!
Internship Spotlight – Next Steps
Instead of our usual Internship Spotlight, we thought we could instead give you all some tips today on where you should be on the process and what steps you can take to succeed in your job search!
Class of 2028: Many of the summer opportunities for Freshmen haven’t opened yet, given that they’re much more informal, learning experiences than Sophomore or Junior internships. Right now, you should be working with your mentor to ensure that your CV, LinkedIn, and other useful materials for your applications are pitch perfect.
Class of 2027: As recruiting for Summer 2026 internships begins next semester, now would be an excellent time to secure a job for this summer (if you haven’t already), and apply to special, summit-style events and opportunities that many companies hold during the Spring semester specifically for Sophomores.
Class of 2026: Recruiting for Summer 2026 internships will close soon for most of the mainstream industries, so it’s essential that you keep applying to any and all open positions if you haven’t secured a job yet! That being said, there are hundreds of internships that have yet to be posted (still in mainstream functions, like Finance, Accounting, Tech, and Management) by companies that are not in the financial/business services sectors. If working in Estée Lauder’s Marketing department or Disney’s Corporate Finance team interests you, keep perfecting those application materials and be on the lookout for those opportunities in the coming months.
Thursday Meeting
Tomorrow, we’ll be joined by Alida Boer, an exceptional entrepreneur from Guatemala. She currently owns and runs two start-ups: Maria’s and NOLÉ. Her work is primarily in the fashion and beauty/care spaces (which makes sense… Alida started out her career as a model), but she places a special focus on generating positive, social impact from her businesses’ supply and distribution processes.

That hair is no happy accident…
So, if you’re interested in learning more about the intersection between entrepreneurship, sustainability, and good hair, you’ll surely want to join us tomorrow for a fun and interactive Q&A session!
See You Soon!
And, no, don’t worry, I won’t leave you without another prophecy... yesterday, in all the haze and craze, I was visited by the ghost of Colonel George Washington himself, and he whispered the strangest thing in my ear. As always, interpret with caution ☢️
This Week’s Prophecy… 💌
No hay manera de predecir qué guerrero matará al dragón primero… si el que dispara con la escopeta escosesa o el que carga la espada americana.
Stay safe out there, it’s a crazy world. See you soon 💜
